He was seen with Mrs Bolshaw in an estate agents office in Chester, three weeks before her death. Mrs Bolshaw told the assistant they were looking for a bungalow in the Handbridge area.
The description of the man was as follows:

• wearing a light coloured grey or beige full length mackintosh
• fairly short height, stocky with broad shoulders
• age 50-55 years
• clean shaven, greying hair which was short and receding at the front
• clear complexion, round face which was on the 'plump' side
• wearing clear (not tinted) silver steel framed spectacles
